Desperate Housewife

Alright. I have not been watching much network TV lately. Once Friends was done, I really had no reason. Until now. I'm totally all over Desperate Housewives! It's just too much. So, when I heard about this quiz on the radio, I had to try it out. So, who am I?

Too funny! The site has a lot of funny quizzes, and I guess you could even register and make your own. Not that I'm about to do that--really not that creative.

Amazing Story

Many of you may have heard about the Illinois family whose father was injured in Iraq while mother was pregnant with quints--and they already had 2 children! An incredible story. A lot of the news agencies and ordinary people around here have been following it. The family has gotten a lot of support, financial and otherwise, and was recently donated a brand new home. Here's the interesting part--in our neighborhood! Our builder donated a 5-bedroom, 4-car garage home (same model we got) and had it fully furnished and decorated. Apparently, there was a big homecoming ceremony for dad yesterday. The Lt. Gov. and an A&E crew came . . . and I had no clue. Anyway, here's an article about it from the Trib. I'll have to keep my eyes out for the A&E special--I'll probably see them there before I meet them in person. :)

Monday

Ugh, it was so hard to get up this morning. Beej actually had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to get up first. Ha!

This weekend was nice. It was (kind of) a 4-day weekend. We had P/T conferences last week, which meant a super-long work day on Wednesday, Thursday off for Veterans' Day, and half a day Friday for conferences. It was just nice to have time to go shopping, get work done on this website, watch some movies, and harass the dog. I know there are those out there (including my hubby) that want to throttle me because of all the time off. Fine. You could have all gotten into education if you really wanted! :) And don't forget--I spent 22 straight years of my life in school to earn the summers off. :) Ha ha! Anyway, BJ's dad made us awesome fajitas--or fiatas, as he calls them--Saturday for lunch, and we helped him with some computer stuff. Sunday it was dinner with my 'rents. Mom, as always, came through with this great stroganoff-type dish. Then off to Sears for Friends'n'Family night and a new water softener. Sorely needed, but it turns out we may have gotten the wrong one. We'll see. Isn't home-ownership fun?

The Midwest

OK, so I couldn't help but notice all the "Midwest bashing" going on leading up to and following the election. You know, all the "dumb, backwards, religious-right, pro-Bush" rhetoric. Being a proud Illinois girl (a state which generally supported Kerry, by the way) I couldn't help but take a little offense. I think at one point I even read something about building a bridge between the two coasts without any off/on-ramps in the middle. Whatever.

So, because I could never be as eloquent as I'd like, I've included some links to articles that were in the Chicago Tribune recently to help enlighten the world about the Midwest. :) I particularly liked the comment at the end of Ron Grossman's article: "Burn down your cities and leave our farms, and your cities will spring up again as if by magic; but destroy our farms and the grass will grow in the streets of every city in the country."

Back Online

OK, first I must apologize to those few out there who frequently check out lippoldtHAUS for the rampant changes. I've been having a hard time deciding what I wanted to do with this site, and the best way to go about it. I came to the realization that I can't half-ass it anymore, and signed up with blogger.com to get a real blog. And, here we are! I tried it before with another service, and just didn't like how they did stuff. This is better.

So, the cool part is that anyone and everyone can comment right on my web page! The whole family could essentially have a conversation in one spot without flying emails or telephone bills. I also welcome comments on my "profound" observations or the photo albums. I'll also try to include links in this forum for things I find interesting or fun items.

All in all, welcome back! I hope you find it easy to read, navigate, and enjoy!
